The Metrics By Month report tracks critical financial & operational KPIs over tme. The report allows MSPs to monitor essential business metrics month-by-month, including:

• Contribution Total - Overall profitability
• Contribution per Hour - Labor efficiency and pricing effectiveness
• Effective Rate - Actual billing rates achieved
• Efficiency - Resource utilization and productivity
• Labor Gross Margin - Service delivery profitability
• Billable Agreement Hours - Contracted capacity management

Certain reports allow the user to customize performance thresholds. Users set their own "good" and "bad" ranges for each metric, and the report automatically aplies red/yellow/green color-coding. This means MSPs can:

• Align thresholds with their specific business goals and industry benchmarks
• Instantly spot underperforming months (red) vs. target-meeting months (green)
• Identify trends before they become problems (yellow warning zones)

The Metrics by Month report distills complex financial and operational data into:

• This makes it ideal for monthly reviews, QBR prep, and internal planning.

All of the reports allow you to filter on:

1. Client - The report will show one client or all clients.

2. Date Range - Select a specific date range in the Quick Select, or customize a start and end date range.

3. Metric - Pick one of the six key performance metrics available.

4. Account Manager - Select companies that belong to a Certain Account Manager.

5. Client Type - Filter on one or multiple Client Types.

For certain metric reports,  customized performance thresholds uses shading to show the normal range of values (green), outside the range (yellow), and greatly outside the range (red).

For example - For the Efficiency metric, being between .8 and 1.5 is generally a good normal range for efficiency. Outside this range, the client is either over utilizing for the amount they are paying or not using enough time for the amount they are paying. So for .5 to .8 and for 1.2 to 1.5, the values are shaded in yellow. Further than these values on other side, the severity of the results are more dramatic and thus they are shaded in red. You can adjust the values to have a more custom approach.

The metrics that use the shading filter are:

Efficiency (based around an efficiency of 1).

Contribution per Hour (based around a Contribution per Hour of $150.)

Effective Rate (based around an effective rate of $187.50).

Labor Gross Margin (based around a % gross margin of 65%).

A default set of thresholds is provided for the appropriate reports. For example, the settings below show the defaults for Effective Rate.

One table can be filtered at a time. Each table can be selected for all clients, a single client or a range of clients selected in the filter. The averages for the time span is shown in the last column. The average for all clients in the filter for a month is shown at the bottom of each column.
