Creating the API Keys (Autotask)
There are four steps to creating the Member API and then updating MSPCFO.
- Create a new Security Level
- Create a new API member with the new security role
- Create the keys for the new member
- Update MSPCFO
It should not take more than a few minutes.
1. Create a new Security Level
Navigate to Admin/Account Settings & Users/Security/Security Levels
Choose the Security Levels line for API User (System) (API-Only). To the left of the name is a menu which allows the option for 'Copy'.
Below is an older form of the same link to allow you to create the new security level. Use the one that is close to your version of AT.
Rename the Report MSPCFO API Security
The next few steps are establishing the permissions. MSPCFO needs read only permissions. In the General tab, there are 11 sections to establish permissions:
1.IN EACH SECTION START BY CLICKING "No Permission" IN THE TOP RIGHT.
2. Then check or change any setting that is highlighted in yellow.

When you are through updating all of the permission levels, click Save & Close
2. Create the API Resource with the new Security Role
Go to Admin/Resource (Users)
Add an API User
Select New API User
3. Create the keys for the new member
Fill in the fields as follows:
Yellow: Anything you want. It does not impact functionality of the API
Red: Use the new security level you created above and reference MSPCFO as the integration vendor
Green: Press generate buttons and these will populate (these two fields are the Username Key and Password Secret for MSPCFO)
DO NOT SAVE YET ----- and do not close this screen. (NOTE: As soon as you save, you will not be able to see the Secret) You must then go back to MSPCFO in another tab.
4. Complete the Update in MSPCFO
You now have your Username Key and the Password Secret Key on a screen. You need to copy the keys into MSPCFO. Only then can you save them in AutoTask.
In most cases, you are feeding your data for the first time. Either you clicked BUY NOW at www.mspcfo.com or you were sent an email with a link. Both of these scenarios will take you to the Company Registration forms. You also could be an MSPCFO user, but need to update your API credentials.
Setting up your API Credentials for the first time
In the case you are coming into MSPCFO for the first time, you need to set up the Company Registration forms. The link will prompt you to set up your Account, Company, sign the EULA document, and then fill in the API Credentials. Copy the Username Key and Password Secret generated in AutoTask to this screen. Then click NEXT.
To complete the process, go back to the AutoTask screen with your generated keys and click SAVE and CLOSE.
