Internal Clients
Purpose
Every time entry has a client name associated with it. These clients may be External or Internal.
An External client is a revenue generating client. When members enter time records for these clients, they are doing work directly related to one of your revenue generating clients. The time could be agreement time, project time, block time or actual rate time.
Time entered for your company and/or projects done under your company that do not generate revenue are considered Internal. Examples of types of work put into your PSA are time spent in general company meetings, vacation time, internal technical work, etc. The Internal Clients table is where you define which clients are Internal Clients. This is usually your company, an internal test company, a merged MSP company, etc. Your internal clients need to be identified for accurate reporting. Time spent on internal clients is still assigned to the members. This time shows up on your Member reports but does not impact the Client P&L.
Internal time can be Admin time where no revenue credit is assigned to the member or Internal Technical time where the member is working not on a specific client's technical issues, but is working on your company's technical issues. A % of the member's rate for this work can be attributed revenue for the member. Learn more about this feature in the Lookup/Work Types table.
Even though internal time generates no actual revenue, it is important that your members enter this time into your PSA. Some of the internal time may be technical in nature and revenue can be attributed to the member for the time. Another important issue is it shows how the member is utilizing their non client-facing hours.
Settings
To add an internal client, click "Edit Internal Clients"
A list of all clients are displayed in the box on the left (Available). You can add an Internal Client by highlighting a client in the left box and moving it over to the right (Selected). Likewise you can move a Selected Client back to the left column by reversing the process.
If you have made any changes, press the "Save Internal Clients" bar at the bottom to save changes. If no changes have been made, hit the Cancel button.
Internal clients will not appear on the reports if there is no revenue. If invoices are sent to an internal client, MSPCFO will show the client on reports. (For example, if your company sends an invoice to itself to track certain information, even though it is an internal company, it will show up in the reports.
Recalculation of the data must be made for this option to be updated.
